Funeral services for Oleta Joyce Richardson were held 2:00PM, Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Sulphur with Chaplain Scott Battice officiating. Interment was held Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon, TX.

Oleta was born June 22, 1928 in Palestine, TX to the late Gilbert R. & Cora (Betsill) Day. She died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 in Davis, at the age of 88 years 8 months & 6 days. Oleta and William B. “Bill” Richardson were married on Oct 1, 1946. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1993.

Oleta grew up in the Brownfield, TX area. Following her high school graduation she continued her education at Texas Tech. She spent several years working as a teacher’s assistant with the Littlefield School System, in their special education department. Throughout their marriage, she and Bill owned and operated several businesses, including two dry cleaners and a café. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing and working with ceramics. Oleta was also an avid reader.

Survivors include four sons, Ron Richardson of Davis, Ricky Richardson of North Richland Hill, TX, Gilbert Richardson of Amarillo, TX and Mark Richardson of Davis; three granddaughters, Karri Jones of Davis, Tish Thomas of Sulphur and Brandy Williams of Liberal, KS; five grandsons, Lacy Richardson of Davis, Eric Richardson of Stratford, Robert Richardson & Keith Richardson of North Richland Hill, TX and W.B. Richardson of Amarillo, TX; seven step-grandchildren; as well as 32 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Oleta was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Rod Jones, Lacy Richardson, Eric Richardson, Robert Richardson, Keith Richardson and Steffan Thomas.
