Obituary for Patsy Joan Smith

Patsy was born December 19, 1933 in Byars, OK to the late Roger and Catherine Cordilia (Allred) Giddens. She died Friday, December 30, 2016 in Springer, at the age of 83 years & 11 days. Patsy and Keith Kenneth Smith were married on March 11, 1950 in Gainesville, TX. He preceded her in death on August 4, 2013.

Patsy grew up in Dougherty where she attended high school. She later attended Cameron University, majoring in Elementary Education. She spent several years working as a teacher’s assistant in Berwyn. Patsy Smith was truly quite a lady. She devoted her life to caring for others, especially her family. She worked tirelessly to provide the very best for her family. Whatever the event or occasion, Patsy was always there to support and encourage her family and friends. Although she was small in stature, she was a force to be reckoned with. She was very plain spoken and usually spoke what was on her mind, doing so in a loving way, most of the time. Throughout her married life, she and Keith made their home in several places, including Dougherty, Morenci, AZ, Sulphur, and Porter Hill prior to settling in Springer. She was a member of the Eastern Star, obtaining the office of Worthy Matron as well as a “Mother Advisor” of the Rainbow Girls.

Survivors include two daughters, Kendra (Smith) Ford & Husband Steve and Becky (Smith) Buchanan, both of Springer; six grandchildren, K.J. Pletcher & wife Katie, Robert Keith Pletcher, Millie Reed & husband Stephen, Kristy Meeks & husband Denny, Steven Ford and Stacy Ford & wife Erin; thirteen great-grandchildren, Kollin Pletcher & wife Cameryn, Cassie Lee & husband Steve, Emma Meeks, Kason Pletcher, Clancy Meeks, Ethan Reed, Joni Pletcher, Trace Ford, Lenora Meeks, Lucille Ford, Henry Ford, Ella Reed and Audrey Ford; two great-great grandchildren, Kaden Pletcher and Breckin Lee; as well as numerous nieces & nephews, including Ronnie Giddens & wife Nita and Mahonna Clanton.

In addition to her parents and husband, Patsy was preceded in death by an infant son, Rubin Buford Smith; infant daughter, Keitha Joan Smith; son-in-law, Buck Buchanan; and siblings, Earnestine, Polly, June, Carrol and Jay.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, grandsons-in-law and great-grandsons. Honorary bearers will be nieces and nephews.
