William Carl "Bill" Porter

Funeral services for William Carl “Billy” Porter will be held 2:00PM, Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating. Interment, with military honors will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.
Billy was born June 11, 1931 in Pryor, OK to the late William Clyde & Etta May (Kating) Porter. He died Monday, February 19, 2018 in Joplin, MO, at the age of 86 years. Billy and the former Ms. Reba Jo Sewell were married on November 25, 1958 in Oklahoma City, OK.
Billy grew up in Cherokee, OK, where he attended school from kindergarten through the twelfth grade. While in high school, Billy was the lead singer in a band he and his friends formed. They called their band, Spike Porter and the Cherokee Slickers. After high school, he attended Central State College. On January 8, 1951, Billy joined the United States Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict as an aviation mechanic. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on November 12, 1954.
Following their marriage, Billy and Reba made their home in Oklahoma City from 1958 until 1969, where he and his brother owned and operated several Texaco Service Stations. Late in 1969, the family moved from Oklahoma City to the Wynnewood area where they remained until 1997 when they moved to Grove, OK. Billy also spent many years working as a route salesman for the Jewel Tea Company and Lance Foods. In his spare time, Billy enjoyed riding across the United States on his Honda Goldwing, with Reba right behind him. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his loving wife, Reba Jo Porter; three daughters, Donna Green & husband Charles of Paoli, Shirley Crawford of Oklahoma City and Pam Redburn & husband Russell of Plattsburg, MO; six grandchildren, Christopher Blankenship, Tammy Ketch, Lisa Zastrow, Chase Parkey, Jay Cloud and Mark Cloud; eight great-grandchildren; as well as his beloved dog, Lucy Jo Porter.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his brother John Porter.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and son-in-laws, Chris Blankenship, Chase Parkey, Russell Redburn, Charlie Green, Jason Ketch and Jay Cloud.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
