Graveside funeral services for Alvin Laxton, Jr. of Sulphur, will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, Aug 3, 2016 at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur, with Pastor Dick Terry officiating.
Alvin was born on June 18, 1931 in Burr Valley, OK (Pontotoc County) to the late Alvin, Sr & Jessie Cleo (Chapman) Laxton. He passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 in Davis at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 12 days. Alvin and Katherine Sallada were married on November 24, 1973 in Bedford, PA.
Alvin began working in the oil field in 1947 in Ada, OK. He started out as a roughneck and eventually working his way to Assistant Drilling Superintendent. Alvin drilled in 11 different states throughout his career. He retired in 1993 and that lasted 1 yr. before he was needed to return to the industry as a consultant for numerous oil companies, later retiring again in 2014. Alvin spent most of his career in the Gulf region and returned to Oklahoma in 2011. His hobbies included fishing, gardening and planting fruit trees. Alvin was an elder of the Chickasaw Nation.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Katherine; daughter, Alta Jean Spears of Spring Hill, LA; four sons, Gerry Laxton & wife Wanda and Michael Laxton & wife Kathy of Sulphur, Jimmy Laxton of Longview, TX and Jason Laxton & wife Christie of Sulphur; three brothers, Charlie Laxton & wife Claudine of Spearman, TX, Lewis Laxton & wife Sheila of Vanoss, OK and Stanley Laxton of Azle, TX; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren along with several nieces & nephews.
Others preceding him in death include his parents; daughter, Charlotte Robertson; son, Jerry Lee Laxton; three brothers, Floyd, John and Don Laxton.

Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, Aug 2, 2016 from 5-7 PM at Hale’s Funeral Home, Sulphur.
