Anna Joan Mcdonald

March 26, 1942 — January 26, 2021

Anna Joan (Lucas) McDonald was born March 26, 1942 in Dougherty, OK to the late Emmit Lee and Melna Carmine (Drew) Lucas. She died Tuesday, January 26, 2021 in Sulphur, at the age of 78 years and 10 months. Joan and Harold M. McDonald were married on April 8, 1961 in Gainesville, TX. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2004.

Joan grew up in Dougherty, graduating from Dougherty High School. Following their marriage in 1961, she and her daughters traveled around the country with Harold, following his pipeline welding career. Once she and her family retuned to the area, she and Harold owned and operated the Oasis Bar south of Davis for ten years. After selling the bar, Joan worked as a private in-home caregiver before working with an area home health agency. She then left home health and began working as a CNA at the Burford Manor Nursing Home in Davis. Her final years in healthcare were spent at the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital in Sulphur, retiring in 2017.

Joan was a very straight forward person, pretty much saying what she thought. She had a desire to help others and did so with great love and compassion. Joan was the type of person that did her work, then, did whatever else was needed to help others with their work. She was faithful to her patients and tried diligently to meet their every need.

Joan was always up for a good laugh. She brought many laughs and smiles to those around her. She loved spending quality time with her family and friends. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, fishing, playing bingo and gardening. Joan was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed watching pretty much any sport she could find on television, no matter how much it annoyed those in the house.

Survivors include her three daughters, Yolanda Goebel & husband Davie of Dougherty, Lajonna Kays & husband Mike of Sulphur and Dehawn Lamb & husband Eric of Dougherty; seven grandchildren, Tabby McDonald, Chaz Goebel & wife Melissa, Kabrina McGregor & husband Andy, Stacey Smith & husband Chase, Thomas Vinson & wife Rylan, Brysen Lamb & wife Maycee and Maci Lamb; 13 great-grandchildren, Gracie, Carley, Rylee, Presley, Drew, Jaxton, Logan, Dautry, Mila, Blakeleigh, Ayvoree, Swayze and Dayzee; brothers, Monte Lucas, Terry Todd and Victor Lucas, all of Dougherty; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by one sister, Jan (Lucas) Billy and one brother, Jimmie Lee Lucas.

Graveside services will be held 10:00AM, Friday, January 29, 2021 at the Dougherty Cemetery with Pastor Willard McCartney officiating, assisted by John Rheed Hale.
