Charles Lee Matlock

Charles was born July 27, 1948 in Norman, OK to the late Herbert & Lucille (Jones) Matlock. He died Friday, April 22, 2016 at the age of 67 years 8 months & 26 days.
Charles, a 1966 graduate of Davis High School, grew up in Davis. After high school he attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in English in 1970. After college, Charles made his home in Tennessee, Kentucky and Indian, prior to returning to Davis in 1992. He worked several years at Camp Classen before joining the staff of Falls Creek Baptist Assembly Camp. In 2014, after nineteen years of both part-time and full-time employment at Falls Creek, Charles officially retired; however, he continued working there part-time in maintenance. Like many of the Falls Creek Staff “Family” members, such strong, lifelong bonds are created that it’s hard to simply leave and stay away.
Charles was a very hard working man and although cherished his Falls Creek family, his own family was most important to him. He faithfully cared for his mother throughout her final day of life; as well as, mastered the role of being an amazing uncle. Whether it was babysitting, helping with Scouts or just simply being there to support them, Charles was always available for his nieces and nephews, mostly just to spoil them. He truly had a servant’s heart when it came to helping others. In his spare time, Charles enjoyed riding motorcycles and caring for his animals.
Survivors include his two brothers, Paul David Matlock & wife Diana of Houston, TX and Philip Matlock of Oklahoma City; son, Kevin Matlock Hobbs; niece, Rhea Gilliland & husband Jeremy of Davis; two nephews, Mike Matlock & wife Laura of Nesbitt, MS and Brian Matlock & wife Tara of Piedmont, OK; as well as several great-nieces & great-nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be his Falls Creek co-workers Chad Fielding, Don Brown, Sam Snyder, James Norman, Kenny Hudson & Beau Waters. Honorary bearers will be Falls Creek Co-Workers Zeke Genn, Ryan Bauer, Matt Neal, Brandon Kelley, Clay Young, Kris Travis, Jeff Blakey, Corey Dodd, Jeremy Tonihka, Kenyon Bush, Gary Warren & Zach Richardson.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening, May 1st from 5-7PM at the funeral home.
