Dalphus Holand “Doc” Baldwin

Graveside services for Dalphus Holand “Doc” Baldwin will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the Dougherty Cemetery with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating.

Doc was born Oct 24, 1931 in Dougherty to the late Restle & Allie Mae (Bell) Baldwin. He died Friday, July 15, 2016 in Ardmore, at the age of 84 years 8 months and 21 days. Doc and Dennie Jane Stephens were married on July 6, 1952 in Silver City, NM. She preceded him in death on Jan 2, 2008.

Doc grew up in Dougherty where he graduated high school in 1949. Following high school, he served briefly in the Unites State Army. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, Doc returned home and continued his education at Murray State College. After college, he & Jane moved to Idaho where he spent 20+ years working as a Fire Control Officer for the US Forestry Service. In 1988 Doc & Jane returned to Dougherty to enjoy their retirement.

Doc was a very supportive of his community. He was always willing to assist with anything that would benefit Dougherty. He spent 25 years as the volunteer sexton for the Dougherty Cemetery. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, listening to music and especially visiting with others.

Survivors include his two sons, Dennis Baldwin and David Baldwin, both of Dougherty; son-in-law, Gary Fitch of Dougherty; five grandchildren, Christopher, Jason, Elisha, Courtney & Ashley; as well as five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents; Doc was preceded in death by his daughter, Merlyn Fitch; one sister, Margaret Beesley; and three brothers, Edgar, Harrell and Robert Baldwin.
