Delmer “D.O.” Salter

Funeral services for Delmer “D.O.” Salter will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, Sept 26, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Davis with Pastor Dave Jenkins and Delford Fox officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery at Davis.

D.O. was born Nov 6, 1919 in Sulphur, OK to the late William Oscar & Cora Zula (Skelton) Salter. He died Sunday, Sept 23, 2012 in Sulphur at the age of 92 years 10 months and 17 days. D.O. and Crystal Leah Pierce were married on Jan 19, 1946 in Sulphur.

After graduating from Sulphur High School, D.O. served in the US Army from June 9, 1942 until he was Honorably Discharged on Aug 4, 1945. D.O. spent 35+ years in the Oil & Gas Distributing business. In 1965, he bought out Clyde Ramsey of Greer & Ramsey Service Station in Davis. In the early 1970’s he and his son Jimmy bought out Marvin Greer, changing the name of the business to Salter Oil Co. D.O. was a very highly respected business man in the Davis community. Even after his official retirement in 1989, D.O. continued to promote the family business and the Davis Community.

D.O. was a past president of the Davis Kiwanis Club and the Davis Chamber of Commerce. Memberships that he cherished were Life Membership of the Davis Kiwanis Club, the VFW, the American Legion and the Murray County Antique Tractor Assoc. D.O. was also a member of the Masonic Tyre Lodge of Davis, where he was a 32nd degree Mason and the First United Methodist Church of Davis.

Survivors include his wife Crystal; son Jimmy Salter & wife Patsy of Davis; three grandsons, Kevin Salter of Wichita Falls, TX, Kyle Salter and Kris Salter, both of Davis; as well as five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Lee, Edd McNeil, Ray Johnson, Bob Johnson, Roy Webb, Gene Hester and Wayne Rippetoe.
