Earnest Michael "Mike" Callis

Funeral services for Earnest Michael “Mike” Callis will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the Dougherty Baptist Church with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Dougherty Cemetery.

Mike was born January 20, 1947 in Sulphur, OK to the late Earnest and Imagene “Jean” (Smith) Callis. He passed from this life on Thursday, May 30, 2019 in Shawnee, at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 10 days.

Mike grew up in Dougherty, graduating from Sulphur High School in 1965. He spent several years working as a welder in the oil field industry. Later, he attended East Central University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree is Health & Human Services. After graduating from ECU, he began working for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services as a Social Worker, retiring in 2002, due to his failing health. Mike was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing as often as he could. He was a master archery marksman. In younger years, he and his family did competitive archery shooting, winning countless meets, both on the state and national level. He was a founding member of the Lost Trail Bow Hunter’s Club of Stratford. Mike loved attending family gatherings and spending time visiting with each of his family members. He was an avid fan of OU Football.

Survivors include his son, Charles Michael “Chuck” Callis & wife Eva of Watonga, OK; his special friend, Carolyn Murdock and her family of Shawnee; one brother, Bobby Callis of Broken Arrow, OK; three step children, Janel Wynn & husband Eric, Donna Moore & husband Frank and Derk Vloedman; as well as 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous cousins.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by one son, Robbie Gene Callis; and one sister, Marie (Callis) Duncan.
