He served throughout the South Pacific including Samoa, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, New Zealand, and New Caledonia while attached to the Second Battalion - Third Marine Division and the 2nd Marine Brigade.

Edward was a Watchmaker by trade, having his own jewelry store in both Ardmore and Sulphur. He enjoyed traveling, photography, short wave radio, listening to Merle Haggard, Tom T Hall, and watching television shows such as Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune & 60 Minutes. Edward also volunteered with Cub Scouts, taking his grandson Scott and his friends on father and son campouts at Camp Simpson, and helping to build many pinewood derby cars.

Edward’s favorite poem, that he quoted from often, was “The House by The Side of The Road” by Sam Walter Foss. His favorite line was “Let me live in my house by the side of the road and be a friend to man.” He always had words of advice drawn from his storied and diverse life and enjoyed talking with anyone he happened to meet. He truly never met a stranger. Rest easy Pop, we love you.
