Graveside Services for Edward Leon Cox will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Oaklawn Cemetery with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr officiating.

Leon was born June 24, 1930 in Wynnewood, OK to the late Lee C. & Lena E. (Franks) Cox. He died Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the Veteran’s Center in Ardmore, at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 21 days. Leon and Mickey June McHugh were married on August 22, 1954 and made their home in the Sulphur/Davis area.

Leon attended school in Sulphur. After high school he enlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict where he was an airplane mechanic. After the service, Leon worked for Chance Vought Aircraft Co. He also attended the Okmulgee Technical School. Leon worked for several different oil companies as a tool pusher and supervisor in the U.S., including the North Slope of Alaska and the Island of Amchitka. In the early 60’s, he took his first overseas job in Libya. Leon also went to North Africa, Nigeria, Angola and Indonesia. His wife and children went with him to Iran, Venezuela and Peru. After retiring from the oil field, Leon owned and operated an auto repair business, west of Sulphur. He was a member of the Lion’s Club in Sulphur. Leon enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with family. He was loved by all and will be missed by many.

Leon is survived by two sons, Victor Cox & wife Christene of Davis and Troy Cox of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter, Susan Bassett & husband DeWayne of Davis; two sisters, Wilma Lowrey & husband Mike and Fay Petillo & husband Kelly; six grandchildren, Airman 1st Class Kevin McGaha, Manda & Kaycee McGaha, Kaytlyn Bassett, Darah Keyser & husband Dennis and Telena Stone & husband Danny as well as six great grandchildren, Brody, Payton, & Lola Keyser, Keegan Cox and Wylee & Nichelle McClellan.

Leon was also preceded in death by his wife, June and one brother, Floyde Cox.
