Funeral services for Effie Rene (Britt) Newell of Wynnewood were held 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Sulphur with her nephew, Fred Lamb officiating. Interment followed at the Dolberg Cemetery in Roff.

Rene was born July 30, 1929 in Sulphur to the late Robert Eanes & Jewell Francis (Castleberry) Britt. She died Wednesday, October 19, 2016 in Oklahoma City, at the age of 87 years. Rene and William Eugene Newell were married on June 1, 1958 in Gainesville, TX. He preceded her in death on September 8, 1988.

Rene grew up in the Oak Grove/Sulphur area. She attended grade school in Oak Grove and junior high in Hickory. In 1967, Rene proudly graduated from Wynnewood High School, receiving her high school diploma, a great accomplishment she was not able to achieve earlier in life. She spent 18 years working at the Pauls Valley State School, in various positions including, switchboard operator, clothing department and cottage assistant. After retiring from the State School, Rene began working in real estate, where she became a broker and owned and operated Rene Newell Reality for 20+ years. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, working puzzles, family genealogy and spoiling her grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Roywana Long Myall of Pauls Valley; two grandchildren, Dustin Turner & wife Nancy and Martina Blythe & husband Michael; six great-grandchildren, Dustin Turner, II & wife Hunter, Amanda Turner, Shayne Faulkner, Daylan Blythe, Grant Blythe and Mikelle Blythe; one sister, Mary Lee Britt Amos of Roff; two brothers, Buddy Britt of Calvin and Daniel Britt of Stratford; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Rene was preceded in death by one son, David Lee Long and three brothers, James Britt, Sammy Don Britt and Baby Boy Britt.
