Eugene Edward Pierce

July 18, 1932 — February 7, 2014

Funeral services for Eugene Edward “Gene” Pierce of Hennepin, will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, Feb 10, 2014 at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.
Gene was born Jul 18, 1932 in Katie, OK to the late Edward Eugene and Molly May (Mathis) Pierce. He died Friday, Feb 7, 2014 at his home in Hennepin. He was 81 years 6 months and 19 days old. Gene and Jimmie Ruth “JP” Vanderburg were married on May 3, 1974 in Choctaw, OK. She preceded him in death on Dec 13, 2011.
Gene grew up in the Elmore City/Katie area. He worked as a butcher for the Canadian Valley Meat Co in Oklahoma City for several years and later worked as a ranch hand for the Wolfe Ranch. After he and JP moved from Oklahoma City to Hennepin in 1984, Gene worked for Sooner Foods Grocery in Davis butchering and stocking shelves, where he worked until his retirement. Not long into his retirement, Gene decided retirement was not for him, so he took a job at the Wild West Liquor Store in Davis as a salesclerk. Gene once again retired, this time to be with his wife who was battling cancer. Gene had an unwavering love for JP. She was his life. In his spare time, Gene enjoyed hunting, tinkering with lawnmowers and being with his family.
Gene is survived by his daughter Sherri Terrel of Hennepin; son, Billy Pierce of Florida; four grandchildren, Amber Melton & husband Casey, B.J. Cobb, both of Hennepin, Jara Cobb & Tad of Sulphur and Jason Pierce of New Orleans, LA; three great-grandson, Jordan & Jaxson Melton and Jhett Price.
Along with his wife, Gene was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Pierce.
