Glen Arms

September 2, 1929 — April 1, 2019

Funeral services for Glen Arms will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Midway Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.

Glen was born September 2, 1929 in Sulphur to the late Amos & Annie (Sparks) Arms. He died Monday, April 1, 2019 in Sulphur at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 29 days. Glen and the former Ms. Jo Ann Chadwick were married on May 19, 1951 in Sulphur.

As a young boy, Glen grew up working on the family farm, northwest of Sulphur. With his three older brothers being in the military during WWII, it was up to Glen to keep the farm running smoothly. Prior to marriage, Glen spent several summers traveling and working the wheat harvest. After their marriage, Glen spent 20 years working in the oil field, to help fund the purchase of his farm west of Sulphur. He also ran a commercial hay baling business and ran stocker cattle. In the 1970’s, he, along with his wife and sons, established the Arms Dairy, which the family operated for some 20 years. After retiring and selling their dairy business, they returned to the stocker cattle business, which they still operate.

Glen worked hard his entire life; however, when he found spare time, he enjoyed quail hunting, raising chickens and horses. His most cherished hobby was coon hunting with his prized hounds. Glen loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Even in his failing health, he still enjoyed traveling to watch his youngest grandchild, Gunner, play sports.

Survivors include his loving wife Jo Ann; two sons, Bobby Don Arms and Joe Glen Arms, all of Davis; daughter-in-law, Pam Arms of Sulphur; five grandchildren, Russell Arms & wife Amy, Nick Arms & wife Rachel, Stephanie Cason & husband Adam, Tara Asmus & husband Phillip and Gunner Arms; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Deidra, Maggie & Sophia Asmus, Kaylie, Jordan & Landon Arms and Ava Cason.

In addition to his parents, Glen was preceded in death by one son, Rocky Dale Arms on March 14, 2019; four sisters, Opal Howell, Hazel Bass, Maxine Lannom and Christine Pilgrim; as well as four brothers, Loyd, Hubert, Buford and Roy Arms.

Serving as pallbearers will be Russell Arms, Nick Arms, Gunner Arms, Michael “Bodie” Armstrong, Jerry Charles Birch and Kevin Birch.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Teresa Lynn and the staff of Arbuckle Memorial Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion given to Glen and the Arms family.
