James "Jim" Burton Reed

November 16, 1945 — December 21, 2015

Jim was born Nov 16, 1945 in Wheatland, OK to the late Bural Allen & Daisy Rose (Salmon) Reed. He died Monday, December 21, 2015, in Elmore City, at the age of 70 years 1 month & 5 days. Jim and Betty Lynn Brock were married on June 11, 1965 at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. She preceded him in death on Dec 19, 2014.

Jim grew up in the Oklahoma City area and graduated from Capital Hill High School in 1963. After high school he served two years with the United States Air National Guards. In 1967, Jim joined the Oklahoma City Fire Department and devoted 24+ years of loyal service, retiring as a Major in 1991. In 1999, he and Betty moved to Davis to enjoy their retirement. Throughout his firefighting career and his retirement, Jim also worked as a self employed trim carpenter. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and fast pitch softball. Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elmore City. Jim was a perfect example on a servant. Whether he was serving his country, protecting and serving as a fireman or serving his church and fellow members, Jim did so with a pure heart and loyal dedication.

Survivors include two sons, James Lynn “Jimmy” Reed & wife Marsha of Poteau and Daniel Wayne “Danny” Reed & wife Catherine of Elmore City; eight grandchildren, Alicia, Blaine, Rachel, Jacob, Cody, Mary Beth, Dani-Cate & Hannah; and two sisters, Patsy Copeland & Margaret Cates, both of Oklahoma City.

Serving as pallbearers were Jacob & Cody Reed, Terry, Randal & Danny McFadden and Dale Tinney.

Others preceding Jim in death were his parents; granddaughter, Jessica Reed; three sisters, Levina Edgar, Evelyn Owens & Anita Kent; as well as one brother, George David Reed.
