Jim Brown

Funeral services for Jim Brown of Wynnewood, will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, Aug 29, 2012 at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis with Pastor Ken Wolf officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.

Jim was born October 20, 1934 in Davis, OK to Henry and Mattie (Jones) Brown. He died Sunday, August 26, 2012, at his home in Wynnewood. He was 77 year 10 months and 6 days old.

Jim grew up in the Wynnewood area and attended the Roady School in Garvin County. At age 15 he began working in the oil field and at 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Jim bravely served his country in the Korean War as a Staff Sargent and a POW rescuer.

Jim and Syble (Coffman) Brown were married on August 31, 1956 and together they raised three children. He worked as a manager at a manufacturing company in Gene Autry before settling at the Kerr McGee refinery in Wynnewood, where he retired after 29 years of service.

Jim enjoyed the simple things in life, such as: his family, Syble's home cooking (always teasing she had learned from him), reading the bible and working outdoors. He raised countless animals over the years, and they were all dear to his heart. He was especially fond of his horses and mules, which he enjoyed working as a team to prepare his huge vegetable garden each season. He also fished, hunted, and played a fierce game of domino’s.

Jim had a kind heart and would extend a helping hand when needed. He had a patient and loving spirit. Memories of his quick wit and comical sense of humor will forever be with those who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife Syble, of 56 years; two daughters Patricia Martin and husband Stephen and daughter Angelia Renee Brown; one son James Quenton Brown and wife Michele; seven grandchildren, Diana Martin, Stephanie Stevenson, Sarah Martin, Brandy Klein, Matthew, Megan and Jacob Brown; four great-grandchildren; as well as, one sister, Kathy Bean and one brother Billy Brown.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerry Brown.
