Karen Yvonne Grissom

Funeral services for Karen Yvonne (Leming) Grissom will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, March 12, 2021 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Sulphur, with Pastor Dick Terry officiating. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.

Karen was born September 19, 1941, in Sulphur, to the late Charles Grover and Mabel Naomi (Awbrey) Leming. She died Tuesday, March 9, 2021 in Sulphur, at the age of 79. Karen and H.F. “Pete” Grissom were married on April 3, 1980 in Sulphur. He preceded her in death on October 9, 2010.

Karen grew up in Sulphur, graduating from Sulphur High School, Class of 1959. Later she attended East Central University, earning a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She spent 23 years teaching elementary students at Mill Creek Public Schools, retiring in 1997. Karen was an avid Elvis fan and enjoyed going to Las Vegas to see “Elvis” perform. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching television.

Survivors include two sons, James Gastineau & wife Gaye of Pontotoc and Joe Gastineau & wife Sue of Milburn; one daughter, Alisa Mabry & husband David of Ada; five granddaughters, Kami Nance, Sara Reeves, Maci Parnacher, Kara Sawler and Allison Mabry; eight grandsons, James Hicks, Phillip Ironhand, Ben Hicks, Joey Gastineau, Kaelin Gastineau, Kyler Gastineau, Charlie Gastineau, and David Mabry Jr.; several great-grandchildren; as well as two sisters, Judi Barrett of Tulsa and Teresa Leming of Oklahoma City.

In addition to her parents and husband, Karen was preceded in death by one son, Benny Gastineau; and one daughter, Elizabeth Gastineau.

Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Nance, Jordan Parnacher, Scott Kirby, Colt Riddle, Chris Allen and Russ Allen.
