Leonard Houston “Pete” Runyan


Pete was born May 24, 1928 at Buckhorn to the late Leonard & Jimmie (Corbin) Runyan. He died Friday, Dec 5, 2014 in Sulphur, at the age of 86 years 6 months and 11 days. Pete and Sylviene Petty were married on Aug 17, 1947 in Gainesville, TX.
Pete grew up in the Buckhorn/Sulphur area. He spent many years driving a truck for HC Rackley. He also worked as a security guard at the Sulphur Veteran’s Center and for the Murray County Tax Assessor’s office, as well as for several area ranches. In his spare time, Pete enjoyed roping and watching his grandkids rodeo & play ball. He was a longtime member of the Hereford Heaven Round Up Club.
Survivors include his wife, Sylviene; daughter Linda Ramer & husband Joe; son, Carl Runyan; five grandchildren, Jody & Chad Ramer and Lyndel, Ty & Taylor Runyan; nine great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Jadyn, Kiley, Kaitlyn, Kabrie Ramer, Raelyn Runyan and Easton, Kirby & Kyrtleigh Snow, all of Sulphur; brothers, John David Runyan & wife Sandra of Madill and Loren E. “Buddy” Runyan & wife Ruth Kingston; sister, Jo Thomison of Sulphur; brother-in-law, John Orsborn of Quinton, TX; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Runyan of Gore, Peggy Colene Runyan of Kingston and Betty Runyan of Sulpur; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Charles, Kenneth, Bob & James “Worry” Runyan; three sisters, Helen Orsborn, Sue Telford and Lou Ellen Smith; and two brothers-in-law, George Telford and Jack Thomison.
Serving as pallbearers were Carl, Lyndel, Ty, Taylor, Casey & Chance “Bear” Runyan. Honorary bearers were Joe Roberts, Harold Gentry, Carl Ozbirn, Earl J. Roberts, Sonny Shankles and Clyde Runyan.
