Leslie Sue Healey

July 23, 1935 — January 31, 2021

July 23, 1935 - January 31, 2021. DAVIS. Family will gather privately at the graveside of Leslie Sue Healey on February 12, 2021. Sue was born Leslie Sue Hill on July 23, 1935 to Patty Pearl (Thompson) Hill and Leslie Hezekiah Hill of Davis, OK. On December 27, 1955, she married Baren “Skip” Healey in Davis, OK. Known affectionately to most as “Granny Sue,” she passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 31, 2021, in Davis, OK, at the age of 85.

Sue graduated from Davis High School in 1953 and received her Associates Degree from Murray State College in May 2002 at the age of 66. Her daughter, Casey, who was on the Board of Murray State at that time, handed Sue her diploma. Education was always very important to Granny Sue, and she made sure all her children felt the same and received their degrees.

Sue served as Chairman of the Board of OETA, President of the Oklahoma Cowbells, Founding Member of the Akomda Club (famously almost never missed a meeting since 1958), and has been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Davis since 1959. Sue always attended Sunday services, even though she had to attend recent services in her car due to Covid and social distancing rules.

Sue loved traditions and created many special ones for her family and friends. The annual Thanksgiving gathering and photo of the entire clan was the big event of the year. We all signed her “thankful” book saying what we were grateful for each year. Generations learned to water ski on Lake Skip, with Fourth of July being another of each year’s highlights. All who attended will remember her welcome, her hugs, the fireworks and the music. Indeed, a hug from Granny Sue meant the world and healed the soul.

Sue also kept scrapbooks of all the family memories and goings on in Davis. It was a testament to the community’s love for Sue that when the need to replace scrapbooks arose, everyone who could, brought her photos and clippings to start again. The tradition continued with family and friends sending photos to Granny Sue with hopes of making the year’s scrapbook!

Sue has always supported Davis High School (especially DHS football when her grandsons were playing). Some have credited the State Championship win of 2013 to the Thursday Pre-Game Tea Party at Granny Sue’s. The players loved these tea parties complete with china tea cups and whoopie-doodle tea snacks.

Sue and Skip chose their wedding day because Sue grew up thinking that December 27 was THE best day of the entire year to get married. And it was a great day indeed, for their journey lasted for 56 years until Skip’s passing on October 21, 2012. Sue has been waiting eight years to be with Skip, and although we ache from her loss, we know she is where she wishes to be.

Sue is survived by her children Colt Healey and his wife Sherry, Clay Healey and his wife Holly, and Casey Healey Killblane and her husband Hugh; by her grandchildren, Heather Healey Whiteside, and her husband Tyler, Alexa Healey Goetzinger and her husband John, Diana Healey, Chase Healey, Trey Healey and his wife Melissa, Valerie Farabee and her husband Ben Lerman, Elizabeth Farabee and her husband Jared Hutchinson, Trevor Killblane and his wife Allie, Paxton Killblane and his wife Alyssa, and by her great grandson Killian Healey, son of Trey and Melissa Healey; and by her sister Carolynn Eggenberg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Davis, now known as Pathway (PO Box 246 Davis, OK 73030) or the Davis Public School Foundation (PO Box 333, Davis, OK 73030).
