Louann M. Bonham

Funeral services for Louann Bonham will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the First Love Pentecostal Holiness Church in Sulphur with Reverends Billy Staggs and Lois Blanka officiating, Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.

Louann was born January 29, 1938 in Sulphur to the late Melvin & Effie (Shrum) Gray. She died Sunday, May 19, 2019 in Sulphur, at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 20 days. Louann and Lyndol Eugene “Gene” Bonham were married on December 17, 1955. From this union were born four children, Lyndol Jr, Cathy, Chuck and Kevin.

Following her 1956 graduation from Sulphur High School, she joined Gene in Germany, where he was serving in the United States Army. Upon she and Gene returning from Germany, Louann began working as a Direct Care Specialist for the Oklahoma School for the Deaf in Sulphur, retiring after 21 years of dedicated service.

Louann was a very devoted member of the First Love Pentecostal Holiness Church in Sulphur, where she attended most of her life. She served on the Sunday School Board and had served as the Sunday School Secretary since 1982. Louann was very proud of her heritage regarding the church, being that her grandfather, Asa Shrum, started the church on his front lawn.

Louann was a very loving and devoted grandmother to her five grandchildren and cherished spending time with them. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, going out to eat and working with activities at the church.


Survivors include one son, Chuck Bonham & wife Lisa; daughter, Cathy Cottrell; grandchildren, Michael Cottrell & Sara, Scott Cottrell & wife Monica, Keith Bonham & wife Chelsia, Ashley Bonham & fiancé Dustin Hood, and Lynzee Wood; Great-grandchildren, Clayton & wife Laynee Cottrell, Bradley Cottrell, Brooklyn Wood and Scout Bonham; one sister-in-law, Pat Gray; two brothers-in-law, Joe Bonham & wife Patty and Bobby Bonham & wife Kathy; several nieces and nephews; as well as a dear friend, Dennis Baldwin.

In addition to her parents, Louann was preceded in death by her husband Gene in January 2019; two sons, Lyndol Eugene Bonham, Jr and Kevin Gene Bonham; son-in-law, Dennis Cottrell; two brothers, Clifford & Paul Gray; and one sister, Wanda Spitler, and sister-in-law Rhoda Pack.

The family will receive friends from 5-7PM, Wednesday evening at Hale’s Funeral Home, 3370 HWY 7 West, Sulphur.
