Lucenda Gayl (Stover) Duffey

Lucenda was born July 9, 1947 in Shawnee, OK to the late Euell L. and Geneva N. (Laughlin) Stover. She died Thursday, May 4, 2017 near Fitzhugh, from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident. Lucenda was 69 years, 9 months and 25 days old. She and Darrell Dean “Pete” Duffey were married on March 14, 1981 at Ohio’s Wright-Patterson AFB. He preceded her in death on June 24, 2013.
Lucenda grew up in Sulphur and was a 1965 graduate of Sulphur High School. Following graduation, she enlisted in the United State Navy, serving until she was honorably discharged on September 6, 1968. After her service to our country, Lucenda spent the next 26 years employed with the US Government, working in the Pentagon, for the EPA, for OFFIT, at Tinker AFB and finally at Ohio’s Wright-Patterson AFB. Following her retirement from the US Government in 1994, she and Pete moved back to Sulphur where she worked several years as a legal secretary at the Fob Jones Law Office, retiring once again in 2010. Lucenda enjoyed traveling, gardening and being with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Crossway First Baptist Church of Sulphur.
Survivors include her son, Rob Johnson of Sulphur; daughters, Gina Strong & husband Steve and Dawn Burnett & husband Mike, both of Ohio; six grandchildren, Lauren Thomas, Brent Burnett, Eric Strong, Drew Burnett and Seth & Zoe Johnson; one sister, Malinda (Stover) Jackson & husband Brett of Sulphur; four brothers, Enos Stover & wife Penny of Stillwater, Allen Stover of Sulphur, Bart Stover & wife Brenda of Sulphur and Emit Stover & wife Theresa of Gloucester, VA; sister-in-law, Glenna Duffey of Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lucenda was preceded in death by one brother in law, Don Duffey.
