Obituary for Marvin Curtis McCracken

Marvin was born July 11, 1948 in Coleman, OK to the late John A. & Pearl S. (Morris) McCracken. He died Tuesday, March 27, 2018 in Sulphur, at the age of 69. Marvin and the former Regeana C. Cottrell were married on May 6, 1966 in Gainesville, TX.

At an early age, Marvin and his family moved from Coleman to Dougherty. At the beginning of his freshman year of high school, the family moved from Dougherty to Sulphur. After graduating from Sulphur High School, Marvin attended Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, CA, where he majored in civil law enforcement. Upon returning to Sulphur after college, Marvin worked for area service stations until he purchased his own service station and wrecker service.

After selling his business in 1986, Marvin spent several years working as a Park Ranger for the US Park Service, prior to working as the road foreman for Murray County District #1. In 1996, Marvin retired from District #1 and entered the race for Murray County Sheriff. With a successful win of that election, he served until his retirement in December 2004.

Marvin spent 21 years as a member of the Sulphur Fire Department. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Sulphur and the US Park Service Dive Team. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting knives & guns, gardening and fishing. In his younger years he enjoyed riding horses and rodeoing.
