Math Melvin “Mel” Damron

MATH MELVIN DAMRON, age 77 passed peacefully away after an extended illness at his home in Ardmore, Oklahoma surrounded by family and close friends on April 24, 2014.

Born to Robert Guthrie Damron and Ollie Mae Vest Damron on October 27, 1936 in Wright City, Oklahoma, he is survived by his wife, Trinity Damron of the home; his son, Kyle Melvin Damron and wife Christee of Davis, Ok; three daughters; Kathy Thomas and husband Charles of Carrollton, Texas; Tammy Marino and husband Vincent of Cape Canaveral, Florida; Jenifer Brecht and fiancée’ David Norris of Wichita Falls, Texas; sister Patsy Damron MrGraw of Durant, Ok; brother, Loren Damron and wife Pat of Kingston, Ok; eleven grandchildren, Heather Reames and husband J.W., Gus Damron, Brittany Peery and husband Scotty, Shyla Ingleton and husband Ryan, Courtney, Megan and Mackie Thomas, Ricky Fullen, Johnny Beesley, Jessica and Katrina Wafford and four great grandchildren; Tayler and Lane Reames, Tristen Math Damron Peery and Isla Grace Ingleton all of whom he adored and loved so very dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ollie Damron; eldest sister, Bobby Gwen Damron Clark and son, Steven Dale Wafford.

A ‘55 Graduate of Davis High School, Melvin attended Murray State College then served 2yrs. in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. He worked a short while in the oilfield in his early years prior to his military service then began a career in the semiconductor industry upon becoming employed by Texas Instruments which lead to several other positions throughout the nation. He was very highly regarded in his field and spent the better part of fifty years in the industry which included moving his silicon materials operation known as SilMart to Davis, OK prior to retiring in early 2002. Melvin recently came out of retirement to join K&M Mowing Services, Inc. owned and operated by his longtime friend Kelly Burke. He loved being part of the “team” again and became very fond of his coworkers.

A member of the Grand Lodge of Oklahoma, Lone Grove Lodge No.25 and First United Methodist Church of Davis, OK, in earlier years he was an active member of JC’s, Elks Lodge and VFW. Mel loved to fish, golf, sing, play dominoes and listen to the “blues”. BBQ cooking and spending time with his “little brothers” or his grandchildren was one of his favorite pastimes! He was a true and loyal friend and devoted family man who loved the people in his world very deeply. Mel was dearly loved and respected by all who knew him.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M Monday, April 28, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Davis with Rev. Mike Melton officiating.
