Maxine Laverne Johnson

May 16, 1925 — December 16, 2015

Maxine was born May 16, 1925 in the Seminole, OK to the late George & Lillie (McMillian) Shipman. She died Wednesday, Dec 16, 2015 in Davis, at the age of 90 years & 7 months.

Maxine grew up in the Seminole area prior to moving to Illinois for two years where she worked as a welder on US battleships. In late 1940’s, she moved from Illinois to Davis where she remained until her death. Maxine spent several years working in the health care industry as a nurse’s aide, as well as waitressed at area restaurants. She was most known for owning & operating Johnson’s Bait and Tackle of Davis. Of all her jobs, her most important was being a mother and caring for her family. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards, working jigsaw puzzles and sewing. In earlier years she was active with the Davis Band Boosters; The Jolly Neighbor Women’s Club; as well as, served as a 4-H Leader.

Survivors include two daughters, Charolette Adams & husband Denny of Moore, OK and Jacqualine Dangler & husband Kurt of Grand Junction, CO; two sons, Richard Johnson of Davis and George Johnson & wife Shelly, both of Davis; ten grandchildren, Stacey Lawrence, Chuck Meridth, Michael Meridth, Cheryl Willis, Laura Pennell, Jesse Johnson, Gina Roppel, Michael Johnson, Mitchell Johnson & Marshall Johnson; twenty-seven great-grandchild; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Sandra Stalcup of Clovis, NM; as well as numerous nieces & nephews.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd, Harold and Dub Shipman; one grandson, Rodney Adams; and the father of her four children, O.G. “Jack” Johnson.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chuck Meridth, Michael, Marshall, Mitchell & Jesse Johnson and Buster Coppenbarger. Honorary bearers will be Oscar Hefley and Ralph Coppenbarger, Jr.
