Monte Duane King

Monte Duane King, born February 26, 1950 to Earl J. King and Martha Jane (Hines) King in Monahans, TX, entered his eternal rest on November 26, 2020 in Oklahoma City, OK. Graveside services will be held 10:00AM, Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur, with Brother Thomas J. Thompson officiating. The family request those attending the service to practice social distancing and wear masks.

Monte graduated with honors from Cordell High School in 1968. He attended Cameron University in 1969, participating in the ROTC Program, while studying business.

In 1972, Monte was employed by the Oklahoma Department of Highways, Survey Division, as a rodman, promoted to instrument man and draftsman, becoming a survey data computer specialist, generating the first computer data survey in the State of Oklahoma. One of his hand drawn maps was on display at the State Capitol.

In 2002, Monte retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation as an Oklahoma Registered Professional Land Surveyor Transportation Survey Manager, overseeing one-third of the survey division statewide operations.

Monte married the love of his life, Theresa Ann (West) Roundtree on March 14, 1992 in Sulphur, blending a family of five children. Together they built two houses and two successful businesses, King Land Surveying and King Cuts. He and Theresa loved traveling together as often as they could.

Monte is survived by his wife Theresa Ann King and beloved pet, Klanci Doll King of the home; four sons, Chad King & wife Lisa and Shane King & wife Heather of Davis, Kyle King & wife Bailey of Sulphur and Clay Roundtree & wife Frances of Ingleby Barwick, England; one daughter, Monica McKinley & husband Shawn of Wanette, OK; very special mom, Maxie King of Imperial, TX; sister, Linda Lane & husband Clyde of Cordell; sister, Jo S. Armstrong of Midland, TX; brother, Floyd King & wife Merle King of Foss, OK; brother, Blair Armstrong & wife Gina of Bloomfield, NM; brother, Christopher West & Terry Moore of Pompano Beach, FL; Stephen West of Norman, OK; granddaughters, Chade Bradstreet & husband Chase, Chasa King & Bodee Bradstreet, Chasi Jones & husband Colton, Jasa King and Raegan Whitfield, all of Davis; Sydney King, Aniston King and Londyn King all of Sulphur and Whitney McKinley of Bakersfield, CA; grandsons, Christian Jase King and Garret Whitfield of Davis, Crispin Roundtree of Edinburgh, Scotland and Jude Roundtree & Isaac Roundtree of Ingleby Barwick, England; as well as four great-grandchildren, Creet, Camilla, Coe and Braxee Bradstreet, all of Davis.

In addition to his parents, Monte was preceded in death by one brother, Forest Wayne “PeeWee” King.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Chad, Shane & Kyle King, Clay Roundtree, Shawn McKinley, Floyd King, Stephen West, Chris West, Keith Gerlach, Bill Casey, Bob Ray, LeRoy Tackett, Jerry Perry, Jim Froneberger, and Bob Uhles.
