Services, with military honors, for O.D. Owens were held 1:00 PM, Thursday, Sept 8, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Sulphur with the Pastor Tim Kowalski officiating. Inurnment was held at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.

O.D. was born Mar 9, 1937 in Sulphur to the late Oliver D. & Iwannah Enola (Duston) Owens. He died Monday, Sept 5, 2016 in Sulphur, at the age of 79 years 5 months & 26 days. O.D. and the former Ms Betty Ruth Patton were married on Dec 5, 1964 in Schulenburg, TX. She preceded him in death on Sept 20, 2009.

O.D. grew up in Sulphur, where he graduated from high school in 1955. Following high school he joined the United State Navy where he served during the Korean Conflict, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War era. In 1959, O.D. received his certification from the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology practicing in Sulphur for several years. After he was Honorably Discharged from the US Navy in 1976, O.D. worked for several agencies within US Government. Some of those agencies included the Sport Fisheries & Wildlife Dept. at the Indiahoma Job Corp Center, the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Philadelphia, Miss., Bureau of Reclamation in Carlsbad, NM and the Bureau of Mines in Rolla, MO. After retiring from the US Government, O.D. & Betty returned to Sulphur to enjoy their retirement years. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading Louie Lamour Western Books, traveling and telling jokes. He also spent 15+ years raising Black & Tan Coonhounds. O.D. was a member of the First Christian Church of Sulphur, the Sulphur Elks Lodge as well as, a 58 yr. member of the Sulphur Masonic Lodge #144.

Survivors include his three daughters, Kimberly Keena & husband Donald, Tracie Sousa, both of Sulphur and Sherisa Littlefield & husband Ray of Apple Valley, MN; seven grandchildren, John Mettauer, April Luxner, Erin Hargis, J.P. Mettauer, Jonathon Sousa, Duston Littlefield and Briary Rime; 10 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous cousins.

In addition to his parents and wife, O.D. was preceded in death by an infant brother, Bobby Owens and son-in-law, John Sousa.
