Peggy Colleen White

November 25, 1932 — January 19, 2019

Funeral services for Peggy Colleen White will be held 2:00PM, Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Davis with the Reverend Frank Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.

Peggy was born November 25, 1932 in Sulphur to the late John Wesley and Lessie I. (Foster) Williams. She died Saturday, January 19, 2019 in Davis, at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 24 days. Peggy and Lester Carl “Slug” White were married on November 18, 1950 in Sulphur. He preceded her in death on April 16, 2003.

Peggy grew up in Sulphur, graduating from Sulphur High School in May, 1950. The summer following high school, she worked at the Starlight Drive-In Theater, where she met her soon to be husband, Slug. Shortly after their marriage, Slug joined the Army and was sent to Korea. During his time in the Army, Peggy worked as a nurse’s aide at the Sulphur Veterans Center. Later she worked as the tag agent for Dick Norwood Chevrolet in Sulphur until 1954 when she went to work as a deputy clerk for the Murray County Clerk and Treasurers offices. In 1976, due to an accident that changed Slug’s life, the couple was unsure of their future, so Peggy froze her retirement with Murray County and with her self-taught knowledge of courthouse records, land index records and tax records, Peggy began a career as an Independent Landman for oil field drilling companies. This was the job that she found the most enjoyment with. During her time as a Landman, if the oil business got slow, Peggy worked as a seasonal park ranger at the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. In addition to Peggy’s own career, she and Slug owned and operated White’s Wrecker Service in Davis for 40 years.

Peggy was a devoted member of the Davis Business and Professional Women’s Club, joining in 1963. Throughout her 40+ years in the club, she held every office. Peggy was named “Who’s Who Among Davis Women” in 2001. She was also named “Woman of the Year” at least six times. Peggy was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Nu Laureate Chapter, where she once again held every office and was named Woman of the Year twice.

Survivors include granddaughter, Rachel Brinkley of Tyler, TX; grandson, Tony Moore of Pauls Valley; three nieces, Sherry Brown & husband Bird of Sulphur, Terry Dawn Heskett of Sulphur and Sandy Hollybee of Ardmore; four nephews, Tony Lee and wife Karen of Tishomingo, David White & wife Teresa of Davis and John and Jim Williams of Alabama; sister-in-law, Jenny Williams of Pauls Valley; several great nieces and nephews in Oklahoma and Alabama; as well as her devoted caregiver and friend, Don Clark and her beloved dog, Jackson of the home.

In addition to her parents and husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her son, Carl White on May 21, 1991; one sister, Shirley DeWees; and two brothers, John and Jerry Williams.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday evening from 5-7PM at the funeral home.
