Robert James Mcmahon

Robert J. McMahon “Mac” age 91, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday March 10, 2013 at Arbuckle Memorial Hospital in Sulphur, OK.
Mac is survived by his children, Karen Nicholls, Robert Jr. (Candee), Barb Ratkowski (Jim), Becky Nicholds and Corey. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristine Rae Coss and his infant son Robert John. Mac was “Papa” to Andy Nicholds, Brandon Nicholds and Maddie Ratkowski. He was Grandpa to Ron, Lon and Scott Nicholls and Great-Grandpa to Kayla, Jeffrey, Allison, Benjamin, Collin, Grace, Elizabeth and Bruce Nicholls. His sister Gladys Kreger and brother Jack Chesmore still live in Janesville, WI, where Mac made his grand entrance into this world. He was loved by and laughed with many nieces and nephews.
He had many loves during his life; his first wife, Betty, his second wife, Louise (died in 1994) and his long-time companion, Becky Hunt, who he romanced before World War II and then reunited with in 1995, and playfully aggravated until she died in 2005. He enjoyed the times that he shared with the Blalock family in OK. Mac appreciated his caregivers Kathy and Sandy who would take him out to eat, to the movies and browse the local Wal-Mart.
Mac is a veteran of World War II, where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Star. He loved to tell stories about how “he got them buggers!”
He lived a full life after World War II, starting his own company, McMahon Movers (the business still exists today) in Crystal Lake, IL. He loved to bowl, fish and camp with his children and grandchildren. He affectionately called them names like Tooker, Hilda Clutch, Matilda and My Little One to name a few.
He had many friends and always took the time to stop and chat. He smiled easily and never complained. Someone said, “He’s so well liked you would have thought he hung the moon!”
Mac was “green” before recycling was “in.” He never threw anything away, because “it was still good for something.” He tried to convince one of his kids to use an old car brake drum for a table base! He made sure to keep $2 in his pocket at all times. And, as far as duct tape goes, Mac could have written the book about its 101 uses! He loved “eye-talian” (Italian) food, especially mosca-cholies (mostaciolli). He wasn’t interested in playing bingo at the senior center in his 80s because he said he didn’t want to hang out with the “old people.”
What an impression he made on everyone!
A memorial mass will be held at St. Petronille Catholic Church in Glen Ellyn, IL at 10 a.m. on Monday April 1, 2013. Inurnment will be held at Acacia Park Cemetery in Chicago.
