Roger Blain Leatherman

Roger was born Dec 30, 1910 in North Liberty, IN to Roy and Margarette (Blough) Leatherman. He died Saturday, Oct 20, 2012 in Sulphur, OK, at the age of 100 years 9 months and 20 days. Roger and Elbertine Reeder were married on Dec 11, 1945 in Amarillo, TX. After her death in 1978, Roger married Mary May (Whitaker) Aaron on Nov 24, 1979 in Horatio, AR. She preceded him in death on Feb 16, 2006.

Roger was a highly decorated WWII Veteran. After his service to our country, he and Elbertine returned to South Bend, IN where he worked as a welder for Studebaker Automobile factory. After retiring from Studebaker, Roger worked as an architectural draftsman, specializing in church windows. He was a faithful and longtime member of the South Bend Seventh-Day Adventist Church before retiring and moving south. Locally he attended the Arbuckle View Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Roger, an avid gardener, patient and kind man, will be greatly missed by his family.

Local survivors include his step-daughter, Eve Putman & husband David; step-son Guy Aaron & wife Gienng; his children, Joseph Leatherman of Bellingham, WA, Donn Leatherman of Ooltewah, TN and Eileen Leatherman Watt of San Rafael, CA; grandchildren, Daniel Leatherman, Kathleen, Anne and James Watt. Roger’s extended family includes several nieces and nephews.

A family visitation was held Monday evening, Oct 22, 2012 at Hale’s Funeral Home in Davis. Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, Oct 26, 2012 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in South Bend, IN.
