Ruthie Iveas “Ikie” Pruitt

Iveas was born Mar 3, 1932 in Wynnewood, OK to the late Jim Frank & Alice Belle (Hunt) West. She died Wednesday, Aug 21, 2013 at her home in Sulphur, at the age of 81 years 5 months and 17 days. Iveas and Jesse L. Pruitt were married on Jun 8, 1948 in Gainesville, TX. He preceded her in death on Apr 3, 2011. Others preceding her in death include four sisters, Vera Harrison, Ruby Harrison, Francis Turner & Wanda Howard; as well as one brother, John West.
Iveas spent her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Receiving her license in July of 1965, she immediately began to excel in this field. She spent 20 plus years working at the Sulphur Veteran’s Center beside of her long-time friend, Ruth McClure, before retiring in 1987. Her dedication and desire to serve the nursing industry lead her to hold numerous elected and appointed positions throughout the State of Oklahoma and the United States. Some of her accomplishments, elections and appointments included, a three year term as a board member to the National Board of Nurses Registration & Education, President of the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, Secretary of the Oklahoma Association of LPNs, Governor’s task force of Shortage of Nurses and the Nursing Scholarship Advisory Counsel, just to name a few distinguished honors. Locally, Iveas held the offices of Membership Chairman, Director and President for two terms of the Murray County Nursing Division. She was awarded Murray County LPN for years 1970 and 1973.
Survivors include one sister, Ella Mae Stout of Sulphur; two sisters-in-law, Betty West of Sulphur & Dorothy Garrett of Tucson, AZ; as well as numerous nieces & nephews, including Carol Dilbeck of Sulphur, Sherry (Garrett) Zellner of Pauls Valley & Debbie (Garrett) Whitson of Shady Shores, TX.
