Sherry Lynn Howe

Sherry Lynn (Hilliard) Howe, aka Mrs. Sherry, Sis, Nan and Mom, passed from this world on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the OU Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

Sherry was born on October 12, 1952 in Denton, TX to J.C. “Buster” and Maxine (West) Hilliard, leaving behind her younger brother, Danny Hilliard & his wife Karen. On February 18, 1978 she married her husband of 40 years, Steve Howe. From this union came three children, Stephenie Ringwald, Kali Howe and Logan Howe and his wife Cassey. Sherry was the proud Nan to five grandchildren, Tallie Tynes, Kaedyn Howe, Taelyn Ringwald, Tenley Howe and Kase Howe. She also leaves behind numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Joe and Don Hilliard; as well as one sister, Sue Pettit.

Sherry graduated from Sulphur Public Schools and went on to obtain her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from East Central University, Masters of Science in Administration from East Central University and School Superintendent Certification from the University of Oklahoma. She dedicated her career to the lives of young people through her work in public education. Sherry began as a teacher at Sulphur Elementary School in 1979. In 1988 she started operating A Step Ahead Preschool in Sulphur. She taught one year at Dickson Public Schools in 1991-1992. Sherry then began her administrative career as Sulphur Elementary Principal, serving from 1992 until 1995. She spent the last 18 years of her career as Superintendent of the Dickson Public Schools and teaching adjunct Public School Administration courses for East Central University. She retired in 2013.

Sherry served on numerous committees and boards and received many awards throughout her career, including, Sulphur Chamber of Commerce, Ardmore Chamber of Commerce, Sulphur Board of Education, American and Oklahoma Association of School Administrators, Executive Board of Cooperative Council of Oklahoma School Administrators, State Superintendent Sandy Garrett’s School Superintendent’s Advisory Committee, State Superintendent Ann Benson’s Career Tech Advisory Team, Children’s Adjudication Review Board Member, Distinguished Superintendent Award from Oklahoma Legislature and Delta Community Action Volunteer of the Year Award.

Sherry was a long time member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Sulphur, OK and also worshipped at LifeChurch in Moore, OK. She enjoyed creating various programs, plays and bible school activities for the youth at Sulphur First Free Will.

Funeral services will be held 10:00AM, Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Sulphur with Brother Thomas J. Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at the Nebo-Drake Cemetery.
