Sherry Lynn (Stephens) Stokes

Funeral services for Sherry Lynn (Stephens) Stokes will be held 2:00PM, Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the Dougherty Cemetery with Pastor John Wiley officiating.

Sherry was born June 25, 1958 in Wynnewood, OK to James Franklin “Jim” and Emma Rae (Woods) Stephens. She died Saturday, April 22, 2017 in Sulphur, at the age of 58 years 9 months and 27 days.

Sherry grew up in Stockton, CA. She was a 1976 graduate of Stagg High School in Stockton. Sherry spent several years as a stay at home mom prior to entering the real estate business. She became a licensed sales agent and broker while in California. She later moved to Colonial Beach, VA where she continued in the real estate business with her family. In 2010, Sherry moved to Dougherty. At that time she began working as an office assistant for the ReMax Real Estate Agency in Ardmore until she retired in 2010. The past 5 years, Sherry spent working at the Arbuckle Fried Pie Shop in Davis, until her health prevented her from working any longer. Sherry was a very proud grandmother and cherished being able to be a part of her granddaughter’s life. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, writing poetry and painting ceramics.
Survivors include her daughter, Misty McDowney; granddaughter, Jaelyn Stokes; her mother, Emma Rae (Woods) Lowery, all of Dougherty; two sisters, Peggy VanCleve of Colonial Beach, VA and Latana Lock of Fredericksburg, VA; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Jim Stephens; step-father, Marion Lowery; and one sister, Jamie Sue (Stephens) Green.
