Funeral service for Violet Ethel Crabtree Rankin will be held 10:00AM, Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the United Pentecostal Holiness Church in Hennepin with the Reverends Carl Sledge and Danny Mantooh officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.
Violet was born on Dec 14, 1920 in Tupelo, OK to the late William Joseph and Ethel M. (Kellet) Sligar. She died Saturday, July 14, 2012 in Ardmore at the age of 91 years and 7 months. Violet and Claude L. Crabtree were married on Mar 27, 1936 in Coalgate, OK. After his death in Oct 1986, Violet married William R. Rankin on Feb 7, 1992 in Hennepin. He preceded her in death on Jun 12, 2008. Others preceding her in death include one son, Donald Edward Crabtree; five sisters and two brothers.
Violet spent much of her life working as a cook in various eateries in southern Oklahoma. She was known far and wide for her delicious homemade pies. In her later working career, Violet worked as a Nurse’s aide at the Burford Manor Nursing Home in Davis. Besides the enjoyment she found in cooking, she loved spending time tending her garden. Violet was a member of the United Pentecostal Holiness Church of Hennepin.
Survivors include four daughters, Claudette Genn & husband Dolphus of Ardmore, Linda Tieaskie and husband Cooper of Spokane, WA, Wanda Wein & husband Richard and Donna Looman & husband Lesley, both of Edmond; one son, Jimmy Don Crabtree & wife Helen of Irvine, CA; one sister, Helen Youngblood of Sherman, TX; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren, as well as, numerous nieces & nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening, July 17, 2012 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
