Wilma Dee “Winnie” Ledgess



Graveside services for Wilma Dee “Winnie” Ledgess will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.

Winnie was born Nov 25, 1928 in Holdenville, OK to the late William Dee & Maudie Caroline (Smith) Worthy. She died Friday, July 22, 2016 in Sulphur at the age of 87 years, 7 months & 27 days. Winnie and Calvin C. Ledgess were married on Oct 11, 1947 in Gainesville, TX. He preceded her in death on Nov 9, 2006.

Winnie grew up in the Ravia area and graduated from Wynnewood High School in 1946. Throughout their marriage, she and Calvin made their home in several states including Arkansas, California and Wyoming, prior to moving to Sulphur in 1999. Winnie spent 17 years working for the Chickasaw Nation as a hostess at the Artesian Casino. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, playing cards and trying her luck at casinos. Winnie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even her great-great grandchildren.

Survivors include five children, Dennis Ledgess & wife Beverly of Sulphur, Carolyn Ledgess of Sulphur, Dale Ledgess & late wife Shannon of Davis, Pat McDowell & late husband Mike of Sulphur and Chris Ledgess & wife Tracy of Oologah; seven grandchildren, Terry Ledgess of Sulphur, Cindy Villines & husband Darrell of Sulphur, Landree Taylor & husband Kraig of Collinsville, TX, Todd McDowell & Tiffany of Tulsa, Derik Ledgess & wife Ashlee of Rock Springs, WY, Dustin Ledgess & Jessica of Broken Arrow, OK and Jeana Hickman; as well as 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Winnie was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Motes & Dorothy Roberts.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Todd McDowell, Dustin Ledgess, Houston Williams, Dawell Villines, Stevie Villines and Darrel Villines.
