Bennie Wayne Jones, better known by all as "Wayne", was born June 9, 1950, in Laurel, MS, to the late Otho Spurgeon & Frances (Craven) Jones. He died on Thursday, January 29, 2026, in Norman, at the age of 75. He and former Ms. Barbara Trujillo were united in marriage on June 28, 1986, in Amarillo, TX.
Wayne grew up on a dairy farm in Lawrence, MS. After graduating from Newton High School, he continued his education at East Central Junior College in Decatur, MS. Following college, Wayne became employed by Halliburton Services, working in Amarillo, TX, Duncan and Davis, OK. After twenty-five years with Halliburton, he retired as a Quality Control Supervisor. He then worked for Unit Parts in Edmond, OK, prior to ending his work career with Southwest Silicon Technologies in Sulphur, OK.
Wayne was a quiet man. He did not say much, but when he did, people listened. He was known to be a thrifty man, never getting rid of much, because one never knew when he might need it. Unlike most, Wayne kept his "keepings" very neat and orderly. If you needed it, chances are he had it and knew exactly where it was.
Wayne loved being outdoors. Other than for eating, showering and sleeping, Wayne had no use for being indoors. He enjoyed tending to his yard, tinkering, caring for his animals and anything else that kept him from being inside. In younger years, he enjoyed playing golf and fishing.
Wayne was a very honest man. He had a very giving heart and liked everyone. (Even if he didn't, he would not say so) His family meant the world to him. He loved each family member in his own special way, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the apple of his eye.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife Barbara; five children, Dawn Powell & husband Donnie of Mississippi, Ben Jones of Mississippi, Freddy Herrera & wife Sumere of Oklahoma City, Ross Lard & wife Teri of Blanchard, OK, and Jeremy Jones of Comanche, OK; grandchildren including, Mackenzee, Klowie, Preston, Brady, Blake, Dustin, & Gracie; great-grandchildren including Isaac, Tres, Ezequiel, Jackson, Genevieve, and Rayne; and one brother, Van Jones of Mississippi.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by one sister, Janie Riser.
