Bertha May Koch-Schlehuber

Graveside services for Bertha May Koch will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 10, 2019 at the Dougherty Cemetery, with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating.

Bertha, known by all as May, was born October 4, 1937 in Ardmore, OK to the late Louis Levi and Leah Lavern (Stewart) Fisher. She died Tuesday, October 8, 2019, in Sulphur, at the age of 82 years and 4 days. In 1954, May and Lenard Albert Koch were married in Ardmore. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1993. On June 15, 1998, she and Frank Curtis “Cotton” Schlehuber were married in Beeville, TX. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2012.

May grew up in the Ardmore area, prior to moving to California. In 1968, she and Lenard moved from California to Dougherty, where they raised their family. May spent many years working as a Nurse’s Aide at the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital. She later spent several years working as a waitress at the Catfish Kitchen and Strawberry Flats Diner, both in Dougherty. Prior to retiring in 2008, May worked as a cashier for Aker’s In and Out of Dougherty.

May was a fantastic cook. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, dancing and making porcelain dolls; as well as watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. May was a very talented musician. She, along with her twin sister Fay, could literally play any instrument they picked up.

Survivors include five sons, Lenard Koch & wife Corie of Oklahoma City, Melvin Koch & wife Kerry of Kansas, Mike Koch of Dougherty, Jason Koch & wife Minnie of Dougherty and Bryon Koch & wife Rhonda of Minnesota; as well as fifteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, May was preceded in death by one daughter, Leah Koch; sister, Thelma Fay Counts; brother, James Fisher; and great-granddaughter, Raven LaMay Koch.
