Brent Craig Behrens, a retired educator and longtime resident of Sulphur passed unexpectedly on November 13, 2023, at the age of 71.
Brent is survived by his brother Rod Behrens, three daughters, Abby Behrens, Michelle Johnson and husband Cole, and Kasie Edwards and husband Jesse; as well as three grandchildren, Kuttler, Riley and Jake; his niece, Amy Juelsgaard; his nephew, Bryan Behrens and wife Reve; and his great nieces and nephews, Faith, Jackson, Alleyna, Bennett and Savannah. He was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Bonnie Behrens, as well as his twin brother, Brad.
Brent was born on March 9, 1952, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He grew up on a family farm nearby in Treynor, where he and his brothers learned some of life's greatest lessons of responsibility and hard work. Of course, there was still plenty of time for some sibling rivalry, pranks, and sports.
He began his college career as a devoted football player at Kansas State and later went on to earn his master’s degree in education. He devoted 43 years of his life to teaching and coaching in both public and deaf schools, retiring after twenty plus years at OSD.
Brent, or Poppa as he is lovingly known by his grandkids, made his life's work ensuring his family and friends knew the love of Jesus Christ. He was a constant example of Christ's love and took great joy in helping anyone in need. Those who are closest to him have probably heard him say multiple times "Is there anything I can do for you?"
Music was another great passion of his. Over the years he enjoyed singing with several different groups including "The Silver Valley Four" quartet, Church Praise Teams and the SASO Choir of Crossway. He always had a song to sing and loved to share the joy of music, especially with his kids and grandkids.
Although he will be dearly missed by all who knew him, Brent would tell you all not to cry for him because he is celebrating in Heaven and waits for the day, we all join him there.
A celebration of life will be held at noon, on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Crossway First Baptist Church (fellowship hall), in Sulphur, with Pastor Bill Leveridge officiating.
