He preceded her in death on June 26, 2004.

The earlier years of Carlene’s life were spent in the Pauls Valley area, prior to moving to Sulphur at the age of 15. She and her husband owned and operated the Long Ranch east of Sulphur. Born during the Great Depression and growing up during WWII, Carlene was never one to shy away from hard work. She quit school at an early age to help her family work as sharecroppers in the Garvin County area. Carlene was very proud of her accomplishments as a Rancher and maintained the operation of the family ranch for 76 years. In 2013, she was chosen by the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association as the Murray County Cattleman of the Year. She was very proud of the award and shared her accomplishment with everyone.

Carlene was also very active in many local civic groups and clubs. She was a member of the General Federation of Women’s Club, the Oklahoma Cattleman’s Association, the Murray County Extension Homemakers Club, the Arbuckle Historical Association and the Sulphur Round Up Club. Of all her memberships, the one that was most important to her, was being a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church.

During her life, Carlene’s pastimes included playing cards, fishing, hunting, bowling, square dancing, karate and researching genealogy.
