Billie was born April 12, 1931, in Davis, to the late Walter Earl & Ora Margaret (Hicks) Noland. She died Sunday, September 15, 2024, in Sulphur, at the age of 93 years.
Billie grew up in Davis, graduating from Davis High School, Class of 1950. One of her most cherished memories was being named “Princess for a Day”, which was first runner up to the “Queen for a Day” at the 1950 dedication celebration of the newly built Lake Murray Lodge. It was noted that the judges being able to see the hem line of her slip was the deciding factor that kept her from winning the title of “Queen”. Billie spent the majority of her adult life working as beautician, owning and operating Billie’s Beauty Shop. After simi retiring from her beauty shop, she then spent several years working as a secretary for Murray County District 3 Commissioner Jimmy Primrose.
Billie was never one to sit idle. Whether it was tending to her flower beds, cooking or working around her home, she was always busy. Besides attending the First Baptist Church of Davis on Sundays, there were only two days in her week that she kept her schedule clear for and that was Monday’s for playing cards with her club friends and Thursday for getting her hair fixed. For many years, she met several of her friends each afternoon for coffee to discuss any local news that needed to be shared.
Survivors include two sons, Earl Coll & wife Darlene, and Larry Coll, both of Davis; four grandchildren, Eric Coll & wife Dena of Raegan, Kerri Whatley & husband Daniel of Davis, and J.J. and David Coll, also of Davis; several great and great-great grandchildren; and daughter in law, Janet Coll of Davis.
In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Coll; two sons, Terry Don Coll and Jerry Lynn Coll; her twin sister, Velma “Tiny” Decker; and her two brothers, Harry Keith Noland, and Earlon Noland.
