Dixie Gay Digby

January 2, 1953 — August 31, 2023

Graveside services for Dixie Gay Digby will be held 10:00AM, Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the Green Hill Cemetery, in Davis, with Pastor Johnny Tonihka officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7PM, on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Hale’s Funeral Home, in Davis.

Dixie was born January 2, 1953, in Yazoo City, MS, to the late Monta & Eva Loreen (Clark) Nowlin. She died Thursday, August 31, 2023, in Ardmore, at the age of 70.

Dixie grew up in Davis. After graduating from Davis High School, Class of 1971, she attended East Central University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education. Upon graduating from ECU, she began her teaching career at Joy prior to spending 25 years teaching in the Davis Public School System, retiring in 2002.

Dixie was always vibrant in her appearance. Her brightly colored clothing and blingy jewelry were her signature. No matter what the occasion or where she was at, her hair and makeup had to be perfect, and her clothing always had to match and be well accented with the biggest, brightest jewelry she had. Dixie’s appearance truly matched her heart. She was a very giving individual and did her very best to make sure those around her were well cared for, be it her family members, her students, or her friends.

Dixie was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Spending time with her family brought her great joy and peace. Of course, anyone who knew her, knows that she was a shopaholic. She was ready to go shopping any day of the week that ended in “Y”. She was continually in “teacher mode”. From the time her children and grandchildren were old enough to hold a pencil, she made sure they were always drawing or practicing their writing skills. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and spending time with her beloved family and dear friends.

Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Digby; two sons, Trent “Boomer” Digby of Ardmore, and Colt Digby and wife Sarah of Davis; one daughter, Cheyenne Digby of Davis; seven grandchildren, Cloey Nestlerode & husband Toby, Lawton Hammer, Briana Evans, Maxx Hammer, Taytem Digby, Beckett Digby, and Maddox Nichols; one brother, Rex Nowlin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Dixie was preceded in death by her sister, LaVerne Pullen, and one brother Zane Nowlin.
