Doris Belle Vernon

February 9, 1935 — January 14, 2023

Memorial services for Doris Belle (Tucker) Vernon will be held 2:30PM, on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at the Arbuckle View Seventh Day Adventist Church, east of Davis, with Dr. Brad Jones officiating.

Doris, one of nine children, was born February 9, 1935, in Wayne, OK, to the late William C. “Bud” and Leona M. (Turner) Tucker. She passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023, in Oklahoma City, following a brief illness. Doris and Robert Lemuel “Bobby” Vernon were married on June 12, 1954, making their home on the Vernon Dairy Farm, west of Davis. From this union were born two children Robert Keith and Gwendolyn Vernon.

Moving to Davis in 1952, Doris attended Davis Public Schools, graduating in 1953. Once married, she devoted her life to raising her family and working as a true dairyman and doing whatever needed to be done on the family farm. In 1966, she and Bobby closed their dairy operations and moved to Keene, TX. After residing in Keene for one year, the couple mutually agreed, there was no place like home, and returned to the family farm in Davis. Once back home in Davis, Doris took a job as the office manager for Dr. George Carlson in Ardmore, where she spent the next five years.

Doris had a deep love for children, and cared for many, each holding a special place in her heart. She was always eagerly awaiting to assist the youth at the Arbuckle View Seventh Day Adventist Church, which she loved deeply.

Doris was an extremely hardworking lady, accepting any, and all task as an important responsibility. Born into a tough generation, she learned the importance of having a strong work ethic. Doris did not know the NO, or I CAN’T. She did what she had to do to achieve success in everything.

In addition to being remembered as a hard worker, Doris will also be remembered for her gentle soul, her giving heart, and her gleaming smile. May you now rest easy Doris.

Survivors include her daughter, Gwen Vernon of Davis; her grandchildren, Amanda Jolly & husband Justin of Pauls Valley, Chris Wade & wife Susan of Ozark, AR, and Trucker Vernon of Davis; great-grandchildren, Kirstyn, Aspen, Skeeter, Abbi & Sage Jolly, and Coby & Brody Wade; sister, Lois Holbrook of Ardmore; daughter in law, Roberta Chapman of Pauls Valley; her beloved sister-in-law and childhood friend, Lola Warner of Decatur, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Vernon, in 1999; her son, Robert Keith “Rob” Vernon in 2016; daughter-in-law, Kay Lynn Vernon; brothers, Ross, Buddy, Arlis, Lloyd and Vernon Tucker; and sisters, Carmen Stone and Wilma Taylor.
