Dorothy June Garrett

March 24, 1938 — October 2, 2022

Graveside services for Dorothy June “Dot” Garrett will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at the Dougherty Cemetery, with Brother Randy Chapman officiating.

Dot was born March 24, 1938, in Sulphur, to the late Ed and Nina Pearl (Willis) Pruitt. She died on Sunday, October 2, 2022, in Sulphur, at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 8 days. Dot and Robert Neal “Bobby” Garrett were married on November 3, 1956, in Gainesville, TX. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1991.

Dot grew up in Dougherty, graduating from Dougherty High School, Class of 1956. She then attended Blackwood Business College in Oklahoma City. After college, Dot spent several years working at the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s assistant, prior to working for the Stromberg Carlson Corporation. In 1992, she went to work for Murray County District #1 Commissioner, Billy Frank Lance, and served as his executive secretary until her retirement in 2000. In addition to her employment with Murray County, Dot also spent 28 years working with Judy Hale at the Main Street Restaurant in Davis.

Dot was truly one of a kind. If she called you her friend, she was your friend through good times and tough times. Her loyalty to her friends had no ending. Dot was known to always look for the good in people. She had a very giving heart and was always willing to help those in need. Often her giving was known only by the recipient and herself. Although Dot was always “the boss”, she was one that did her work, plus whatever else that needed to be done.

Dot had an unwavering love and devotion to her children and grandchildren. No matter what life’s journey dealt them, they each knew their mom was beside them all the way, without judgement.

Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Zellner & husband Paul of Pauls Valley, and Debbie Whitson & husband Ovie of Norman; two grandchildren, Keith Garrett and Anise Garrett; as well as two great-grandsons, Austin and Crue.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dot was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Keith Garrett on December 9, 2016; as well as her five siblings, Katie Christy, Velma Pruitt, Buddy Pruitt, Jesse Pruitt, and Paul Pruitt.

Services are “entrusted” to Hale’s Funeral Home of Davis.
