Evaline D. White - Harris

August 2, 1925 — January 24, 2022

Evaline D. White-Harris, better known by her family as “Evie,” was born August 2, 1925, in Faxon, OK, to the late Wilburn and Charity (Dorrough) DeVaughan. She passed peacefully on Monday, January 24, 2022, in Ada, at the age of 96 years, 5 months, and 22 days.

Evaline grew up in western Oklahoma in the Binger & Anadarko areas. On December 17, 1948, she married Lt. Col. Grady O. White. This 41-year union was blessed with two children, Linda and Les. Throughout Grady’s career in the military, this young couple made their home in many places including, Ft. Sill of Lawton, OK, Ft. Bliss of El Paso, TX, Munich Germany, Milwaukee, WI, Omaha, NE, Okinawa, Japan, and Maryland. In 1969, following Grady’s retirement, the family settled in Sulphur.

Evaline was a strong willed, independent lady, who in her younger years was always ready to stroll across a dance floor or sing a favorite song. She was an active member of the Sulphur First United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering at the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital and working with the Murray County Election Board as a Polling inspector. Evaline cherished her family and friends. Each evening at 6:00PM, you need not try to call her on the phone. This was the time that she and her friends set aside to “share information” regarding what they may have heard that day.

Although Evie may be gone from our sight, the positive impact of this God-fearing, family-loving, strong and independent matriarch, will forever be remembered by those who loved her so dearly.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Estlack & husband Mark of Sulphur; three grandchildren, Schelle Seeley of Sulphur, Shawn Seeley & wife Katy of Lawton, and Skip Seeley & wife Whitney of Sulphur; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Logan Seeley, Marissa Beaver, Brianna Stone & husband Jon, McKayla Beaver, Lexy Seeley, Jagger Seeley and Jax Seeley; and one great-great grandson, Decklin Beaver.
In addition to her parents, Evaline was preceded in death by her husband, Grady White in 1989; husband Paul Harris in 2006; son, Les White in 2008; and one sister, Jewell DeVaughn.

Graveside funeral services will be held 10:00AM, Friday, January 28, 2022, at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur, with Pastor Jim Shepherd officiating.
