Imogene Oakley-Martin

Funeral services for Imogene Oakley-Martin will be held 2:00PM, Monday, February 4, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Davis with Pastor Steve Harshaw officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.

Imogene was born December 26, 1924 in Boyle, Mississippi to the late Dr. E.E. and Beulah (Boyer) Shivers. She died Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in Sulphur, at the age of 94 years, 1 month and 3 days. Imogene and Hubert Harold Oakley were married on October 31, 1944 in Davis. He preceded her in death in January 1990. On June 27, 1992, she married Melvin Gene Martin in Dallas, TX. He preceded her in death in March, 2015.

Imogene was a 1943 graduate of Davis High School. She spent many years working as a nurse’s aide for Dr. Hayes, Oklahoma School for the Deaf and Arbuckle Memorial Hospital. She also worked for the Garrison Cleaners. In addition to her own career, Imogene and Harold owned and operated the Arctic Locker Plant in Davis for many years. Although she enjoyed working as a nurse’s aide, being the mother of her four sons, proved to be her most favorite “job.” She worked hard to provide the best homelife she could for her sons.

Imogene was also known as a great baker. She baked countless birthday and wedding cakes for people in Davis and surrounding areas. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Davis. During the time her sons were in school, Imogene spent many years as the leader of the Davis School 4H Program, assisting with countless activities and contest.

Survivors include four sons, Dr, H. Fred Oakley & wife Edna Louise of Ashland, MO, Edward Paul Oakley of Dallas, TX, Mark Shivers Oakley & wife Sharon Lynne of Davis and Arles Boyer Oakley & wife Stacy Renee of Ada; five grandchildren, Fredrick Oakley & wife Jee Park, Sarah Holbert & husband Dan, Devyn Butts & husband Brad, Josh Oakley and Lashun Renee Oakley; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as a bonus daughter, Michelle Silva.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Imogene was preceded in death by two sisters, Deloress McRee and Ingomar McNeil; and two brothers, Gerald and Ernest Shivers.
