James J. "Thomas" Hefley Jr. was born on December 21 or 23, 1934, to the late Jim and Mamie (Howard) Hefley in Loco, Oklahoma. He passed away on April 22, 2026. He was the 10th child in the family with two more to follow. After his brother Jerry Don was born the family moved to Woodville, Oklahoma during the building of Lake Texoma. From there they moved to Wynnewood View to sharecrop cotton and broom corn. In 1947, they made their final move to Davis. It was here that James set up shop to live his lifetime. He was introduced to organized school sports, especially to a game called football. In 1951 the Wolves played for the State Championship against Thomas, Oklahoma. The game ended in a tie score and was settled eventually by who had more first downs. Thomas had more.
James met the love of his life, Bonnie Sue, during high school, and they were married June 27, 1953, in Gainesville, Texas. To that marriage two sons, Stan and Darrell were born. The family tree has grown since.
James was an avid sports fan of the Wolves. He started announcing the high school football games in 1969 and then moved to the film crew in 1972. He would continue this until 2010, when his health started slowing him down. He watched so many of the players grow up. Many who are grandparents today. He took great pride in those memories. In 2012, he suffered a major stroke which curtailed his lifestyle, but not his commitment to family. Bonnie was fading away into the fog of dementia, but he saw to it that her needs came first. When Bonnie moved to the nursing home, James had gotten better and was able to drive himself there every evening to feed her. Only the Covid lockdown could stand in his way. Sadly, Bonnie passed away in 2022. Finally, in 2024, James decided that it was time to move to the nursing home, and that is where he spent the end of his life.
James was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Son, Robert, R.L., & Joe Bill; sisters, Doll, Dimple, Cara Mae, Mary, Iva Nell, and Delma. Most importantly by the love of his life, Bonnie. She died just days short of their 69th anniversary.
Dad is survived by Stan & wife Pam (Ramer) and Darrell & wife Cindy (Harris); grandchildren, Tom (Julie), Patrick (Elissa), Zane, and Brenna Hefley; and great grandchildren Braeden, Danilyn, Gunner, Wyatt, Dalton, and Lily. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Don Hefley and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM, on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the First Baptist in Davis. His grandson, Pastor Tom Hefley will officiate the service. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.
Serving as pallbearers will be Stan, Darrell, Patrick & Dalton Hefley, Justin Roady, and Donnie Ramer. Honorary bearers will be Lily, Braeden, Danilyn, Gunner & Wyatt Hefley, as well as all Davis Alumni.
Services are entrusted to HALE'S FUNERAL HOME, of Davis.
