Jessie Mae Choate

Jessie Mae Choate was born on February 26, 1943, in McAlester, OK, to the late Charles R & Rosie (Lenora) Boyce. She passed from this life on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, in Sulphur, at the age of eighty-three.

Jessie grew up in McAlester, graduating from St. John’s Catholic School. She continued her education at Seminole Community College. At the age of fifty, Jessie earned bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix, AZ. Throughout her working career, she spent 18 years with IQOR and worked as a librarian for Kerr Lab of Ada and EPA Laboratory in Vegas. Her final years of work were spent with East Central University where she worked in student finances as a Bursar.

Jessie loved spending time with her family, especially her mother Rosie prior to her passing. She was a devoted member of the St. Francis Xavier Church in Sulphur, where she spent 10 years teaching religious education classes.

Survivors include two children, Charla Whisenhunt of Tulsa, and Aron Mathew Choate of Sulphur; grandchildren, Jessica Choate, Dominick Choate, Lindsey Barlow, Scott Barlow, David Allen Choate, Samantha Choate, Danny Choate, and Morgan Choate; great-granddaughter, Harper Mae Sanders; as well as her sister, Betty Adams of Oklahoma City.

Those preceding Jessie in death include her parents; one son, David Lee Choate, Jr; one brother, Tommy Boyce; grandparents, Nunzia & Gaetano Lenora; and two beloved uncles, Tony and Carlo Lenora.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the St. Francis Xvaier Catholic Church, in Sulphur. Father Aaron Foshee will officiate the mass. Interment will be at 2:30PM, that afternoon in the Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in McAlester.

Services were placed in the care of Hale’s Funeral Home, Sulphur, OK.
