Joe Bob was raised in Spiro, graduating from Spiro Schools in 1964. He later relocated to Davis, Oklahoma with his parents and eventually made his home in Wayne, Oklahoma, where he lived for more than 40 years. Joe Bob's early working life consisted of working on a survey crew, which he loved and talked highly of, even in his last days. Joe Bob acquired a teaching degree from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma and helped shape the lives of many students and faculty at Wanette, Norman, and Wayne Schools. He was an avid supporter of local schools, even long after retirement, and enjoyed keeping up with small town football and previous graduates.
Joe Bob took up professional photography as a hobby, photographing many of his friends' weddings and other events. He enjoyed fishing and quail hunting with his close friends that he considered family. He also enjoyed working in the yard and keeping up with sporting events, especially OU football.
Joe Bob was a man of routine and could be found at Bakers Pizza or Boomerang with friends and church family during his customary times. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Davis and lived each day to serve the Lord with all his heart whether through the church or in his community.
Joe Bob is preceded in death by his grandparents, Freeland and Evelyne Johnson; his parents, Robert and Lois Dawson; Davis "Zack" Scott Powell (brothers in both of their eyes); and many others loved and cherished by Joe Bob.
He is survived by his godson, Jordan Powell and family of Wayne; godson, Jordan Rogers and family of Spiro; and a host of close friends he considered family.
