John Ellis “Jake” Gilbert, JR.

Services for John Ellis “Jake” Gilbert, Jr. will be held 3:00 PM, Wednesday, Jan 2, 2013 at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis with Pastor Luke Panter officiating.

Jake was born July 31, 1923 in Norman, OK to the late John Ellis & Mary Charlotte (Veal) Gilbert. He died Friday, Dec 28, 2012 in Hennepin at the age of 89 years 4 months & 27 days. Jake and Annie O. Wall were married on Apr 13, 1973 in Gainesville, TX.

Jake spent most of his life working as a self-employed farmer/rancher. He also worked as a truck driver in the Oilfield Industry. Jake was a member of the Hennepin Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Annie; four daughters, Carol Ann Simon and Mary June Hooper, both of Lexington, Joan Ellen Stewart of Norman and Shelia Ann Bray of Yukon; three sisters, Patsy Riley, Clara Wallace and Delcine Young of Davis; brother, Norman Gilbert of Joy; seven grandchildren, Rachel Cook, Rebecca Hooper, Matthew Hooper, John Taylor, Dena Monroe, Kim Brinson and Ernie Roller; as well as several great-grandchildren.

Jake was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Gilbert; granddaughter, Angie Taylor; two brothers, Raymond and Hubert Gilbert; and sisters, June Hickman & Inez Coffee.
