Kay was born February 16, 1943 in Dougherty to the late Charles & Myrtle Lorene (Moore) Frantz. She died Tuesday, December 26, 2017 in Ardmore, at the age of 74. Kay and Ronald Ervin Brown were married on March 31, 1978 in Bakesfield, CA. He preceded her in death on November 21, 2010.
Kay grew up in Dougherty and Bakersfield. Following her 1961 graduation from Sulphur High School, she continued her education in the field of nursing. In 1974, she returned to Bakersfield where she married and spent many years working as a nurse. In the early 1990’s, Kay moved from California to Sulphur, where she spent an additional 20 years working as a nurse at several area nursing homes and the Sulphur Veteran’s Center. Following her retirement in 2013, Kay enjoyed attending church, caring for her dogs and especially spending time with her family. Kay was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include one son, Dennis Brown of Sulphur; six grandchildren, Dennis Brown, Devin Brown, Cadence Ramer O’Kelly, Jamie Lee Copenhaver, Linda Kay Copenhaver and Corri Linn Copenhaver; one great grandchild, James Lee Copenhaver; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents & her husband, Kay was preceded in death by one son, James Copenhaver; three sisters, Betty “Charlyne” Frantz Lee, Dorothy Taylor & Virginia Scott; as well as one brother Charles Leon Frantz.
