Lary Edwin Glen Curry-known affectionately as LC, Stone, and most importantly, Papa-passed away on January 29, 2026, at the age of 75.
Lary was a devoted father, grandfather, educator, veteran, and lifelong learner.
Lary proudly served his country for 26 years in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. A veteran of the Persian Gulf War, his main assignment being in Operation Desert Storm, he carried deep pride in his service and commitment to his fellow soldiers and to his nation. Education was a cornerstone of Lary's life. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Arlington, a Master's degree in Human Resources Management from Pepperdine University, and a Doctoral degree in Administrative Management from Oklahoma State University. His love of learning naturally extended into teaching, where he touched countless lives. He served as a professor at Oklahoma State University and East Central University, taught middle school at Davis Public Schools in Davis, Oklahoma for seven years, volunteered as a tutor at Tulsa University, and found great joy substituting at Dale when his daughter taught there.
Lary was known for his sharp wit, compassion, and remarkable intelligence. He loved telling jokes and bringing smiles to those around him, often through his beloved magic-never "tricks," as he would firmly remind anyone, because it was magic. In recent years, he discovered a passion for drawing and became quite accomplished, creating many illustrated books for his grandchildren that they will treasure forever.
Above all else, Lary cherished being Papa. His favorite moments were spent with his grandchildren, especially the daily ritual of getting Kodi off the school bus and enjoying one-on-one time with her until her parents came home-a simple joy that became the highlight of his day.
In keeping with Lary's wishes, no services will be held. His children are honoring his request.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Dorothy Curry. He is survived by his daughter, Megan Whitmer, and her husband, Mike Whitmer; his son, Zach Curry; and his three beloved grandchildren: Koen Curry (11), Kodi Whitmer (9), and Tayte Whitmer (4), who were the true joy and center of his life. He is also survived by his two brothers, Gary Curry and wife Sandy Curry, and Mark Curry and wife Janet Curry, as well as many extended family members and friends.
In place of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Little Light House, a free education and therapy center that held a special place in his heart, where his granddaughter Kodi attended before aging out. Donations may be made online at littlelighthouse.org, or by mail to 5120 E. 36th St., Tulsa, OK 74135.
Lary Edwin Glen Curry lived a life of service, learning, laughter, and love. His legacy lives on through the many lives he shaped and the family he adored.
